HUMBLE BEGINNINGS
With over a decade of experience, John Brown and Ralph Govan felt sure they could branch out independently from the old-school model of how construction had been done. In 1994, Govan Brown set up its headquarters in John’s dining room on Pacific Avenue in Toronto and the team of two expanded through passion, drive and determination to challenge conventions in construction. Over the last quarter century, we have grown into seven offices across the country and a team of industry-leading talent that have developed innovative solutions that are making a discernible impact on how we build.
Govan Brown built a reputation for being a ‘Can Do’ company: whatever it took, our clients’ dreams would be realized, and we became the exceptional exception in the industry. A key differentiator at our firm’s inception, which still holds true today, was our accountability, responsiveness and active pursuit in how to do things better. These principles led to our early embrace of technology and continual quest to integrate the latest developments to promote collaboration and clear lines of sight into all construction matters. No matter when or why, tried and tested or uncharted territory, we are guided by our commitment to offer real solutions that respond to your unique needs.
As our portfolio of projects have expanded, services have been added and our family has grown, what has always stayed constant has been our entrepreneurial spirit and commitment to being one step ahead. From tapping into our local, regional and global industry-leading experts, we are able to deliver insights and innovations that are meaningful to our clients. From redefining standards of what a workplace can be to delivering the largest tilt up project in Canada, Govan Brown is proud to have reimagined how and what construction can be.
As an organization, we are invested in creating environments where people are able to thrive – whether through our teams, the projects we build or the communities to which we belong. Our story began with the hope of making meaningful changes to an industry that was historically resistant to change – and we continue to work towards building a tomorrow that is filled with promise and opportunity for all.
